Choreographer: Jenny Gerena in collaboration with Dancers

Performers:  Mac Allen, BOSS, Jenny Gerena, Sydney Jackson, Michelle Marji

The soundtrack for this piece began as an electronic thrum. It provided a slightly ominous undercurrent as dancers scurried across the stage on all fours. The opening  gave us an almost animalistic impression of fear or flight. The protagonist strode onto the state and appeared to be in some sort of distress. This evolved into a sequence of movements where the other dancers attended to her with gestures that could be interpreted as comfort or support. This generated some interesting lifts and carries, including a surprising inverted lift.

A second figure emerged from the ensemble and engaged in a momentary duet. Our focus was split as the second figure received the same attention from the rest of the ensemble.

The source of the fear or danger was never apparent, only its effects. The most lasting impression of this piece was the poignant manner in which the women supported the most needful. We could see expressions of tenderness, urgency, and real physical strength applied to this unnamed need.

The piece was fairly abstract, but there was an undeniable emotional context that made it seem meaningful and somehow, real.
