I’ve always been appreciative – no, make that respectful – of artists who challenge themselves (and eventually their audience) by deepening a concept, creating layers of meaning that make a work accessible on multiple levels. Anandha Ray has created such a work with Journey of the Shadow Walkers. It interweaves elements of the historical, mythical and spiritual which, for those willing to receive it, can make it a truly significant experience.
This piece has garnered accolades that would make any opinion of mine insignificant. Still, I think it’s important that I acknowledge the importance of its presence in this program. Dance has many voices and this is one that needs to be heard. I was grateful for the opportunity to experience it myself.
