I apologize if this commentary seems too short, but then – so was the performance. I was just getting into it and suddenly, it was over.

The step platforms were a cool idea, but if they’re going to be that prominent on stage, they have to be used frequently and explored fully in some very creative ways – otherwise, this is going to come off as an advanced step class. There were a couple moments, like engaging them low to the floor and leaping off a platform into another dancer’s arms that really worked and I was hopeful there was much more to come. But then the music stopped.

As entertainers, this group was pretty convincing. The ensemble work was clean and sharp. The pacing was fast, synchronization was (mostly) tight, and attitudes were upbeat. Whatever was intended by the title “Anxiety”, the piece came off as playful and just a little bit sexy. I really encourage this group to do more. More high energy programs. More quirky movement exploration. More longer.
